Hazelnut Growers Wanted!

NW Wisconsin Hazelnut Grower Cluster Informational Meetings

Thursday, January 23, 2020 ~ 6:00 – 7:30 PM ~ Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center

 Wednesday, January 29, 2020 ~ 6:00 – 7:30 PM ~ Spooner Agricultural Research Station

After more than a decade of work, it is time to launch a hazelnut industry in Northwest Wisconsin and that means we need growers.  UW-Extension is hosting an informational meeting for existing and aspiring hazelnut growers to learn about hazelnuts and participate in a grower network.  Come learn more about this exciting opportunity and how you can get involved.

The informational meeting is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Hazelnuts are native to Northwest Wisconsin, but the wild plants tend to produce yields and nuts that are too small.  With new hazelnut varieties developed by the Upper Midwest Hazelnut Development Initiative we are working to launch an industry and scale up production.  Information to be presented at the meetings includes: plant material, production, economics, pest management, post-harvest processing, and marketing.
